Jesus' Mission!

For Sunday, March 5, 2023:

Matthew 9:35 NLT: “Jesus traveled through all the towns and villages of that area, teaching in the synagogues and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom. And he healed every kind of disease and illness.”

There’s a lot of information in this one Bible verse! Jesus’ was an itinerant ministry, meaning he traveled from place to place without a home base. Jesus himself said that the Son of Man has no place to lay his head! But he was carrying out his mission, to share the Good News with as many people as possible!

 "Good News” is a translation of the word “Gospel,” God’s words. And the Good News is that God is making heaven accessible to all who would repent, return and claim Jesus as their Savior. The Bible says that all have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory, and sin and God cannot exist in the same place, so few were making it into heaven. Jesus was offering a plan for forgiveness and redemption, a chance for each of us to claim the eternal place Jesus has prepared for us.

Jesus’ signature healings had become so commonplace that they’re noted only as a tag line to the paragraph. When Jesus first healed people, there was a lot more detail: He touched them, rubbed on their eyes, took their hand and helped them up. Now the writer simply says that Jesus healed those who needed healing.

But anyone who witnessed the healings had no doubt that Jesus was heaven-sent!
