Mark 10:15 NLT, Jesus speaking: “I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn’t receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.”
Dedicated believers want to learn all they can about Jesus and the events in his life. True scholars also want the history, everything preceding Jesus’ time on earth. History and facts are interesting, but they’re not redeeming ordinances. Knowing Bible history isn’t what gets a person into heaven.
Jesus himself said to keep it simple. Small children come to us with open minds, like blank slates, with no preconceived beliefs. Basic Christianity is pretty simple; even young children can understand. I think God kept it that way so that the simplest among us could ‘get it,’ could understand how to be saved.
One of my favorite things in the Bible is called the Great Exchange. Jesus took all the sin of the world upon himself – he took your sin, my sin, past, present and future sin – and in return, clothes the believers in garments of white, suited-up for eternity in the presence of the Father. This is grace, a free gift from God to us. We can’t buy it; we can’t earn it. The event to redeem us has already taken place! We receive salvation through faith that Jesus is who he said he was, and that he can do for us what he has already done. Just believe! Simple, right?
"Then Jesus took the children in his arms and placed his hands on their heads and blessed them.”
