Matthew 26:28 NLT, Jesus speaking: “This is my blood, which confirms the new covenant between God and his people. It is poured out as a sacrifice to forgive the sins of many.”
This is Maundy Thursday, the day Jesus celebrated the Passover meal with his closest disciples. As it drew to a close, Jesus took bread from the table, broke it, and gave it to the disciples, saying, “This is my body.” Then he offered the cup, saying that his blood confirmed the new covenant between God and his people.
And that’s the point! The old covenant wasn’t working out. In the new deal, the new covenant, Jesus’ body and blood became the sacrifice for the sins of the world, and that’s Good News for us! By trusting in Jesus through faith, our sins would now be forgiven and we could look forward to seeing heaven from the inside!
Jesus’ words at the Last Supper give us hope!
