For Wednesday, May 8, 2024:
Philippians 3:10b-11 NLT: “I want to suffer with Christ, sharing in his death, so that one way or another I will experience the resurrection from the dead!”
Jesus left us with a promise: That believers in him who are forgiven will be resurrected from death. Jesus promised that we could spend eternity together in the presence of God Almighty. He promised to go ahead and prepare a place for us! Paul planned to claim that promise!
Paul’s request, wanting to share in Christ’s death, may seem strange and unusual, but it makes sense. If we want to experience life after this life, we must first die. That there IS life after this life was a new concept for many. This was the subject of many debates in the town square. But after the crucifixion, many saw Jesus up, walking around and speaking! They were eyewitnesses to the fact that there’s life after this life!
The next life will be magnificent! Jesus promised the repentant thief on the cross, “Today you will be with me in paradise!” Paul wrote, “Absent from the body, present with the Lord.” We should all claim that promise!
It’s worth a little suffering to receive the gift at the end of your earthly walk!
