For Wednesday, November 15, 2023:
John 4:10 NLT: “Jesus replied (to the woman at the well,) ‘If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water.’”
The woman was a Samaritan, considered unclean by most Jews, a blasphemer. So can you believe what Jesus is telling her – that God wants to include her in the Kingdom? God’s special gift to her is forgiveness, reconciliation, and a place in eternity. That’s the ‘Living Water’ of which Jesus is speaking. And she’s listening to the Son of God, so the promise is good! Count on it!
The woman’s life had been far from pristine, but meeting God’s Son typically results in a radical transformation. The person changes their behavior, lives a better life. When people know about Jesus, they start imitating his behavior and following his commands, and the world is better for it.
Of course she doesn’t ‘get it’ at first. She’ll need more teaching, more time with her Savior, more time to get used to the ideas. But this is her first step into a changed life that will benefit not only her, but all the people in her village.
Jesus started the ball rolling for the woman. Has he begun a good work in your life too? Look carefully for evidence!
