Acts 20:24 Phillips: “Frankly I do not consider my own life valuable to me, so long as I can finish my course and complete the ministry which the Lord Jesus has given me in declaring the good news of the grace of God.”
Paul has a unique perspective on his mission of spreading the Gospel. He’s the only one to have received a personal assignment from the risen Jesus!
If something has gone well for you, the natural inclination is to share that good thing with others. Paul’s life was so positively impacted following his encounter with Jesus that Paul made sharing the Good News his life’s work. It’s what Jesus told him to do! Paul had been given hope, God’s promise of forgiveness, redemption and a life after this life, and he felt a call to share that hope with others. We should do that nowadays too!
Paul was writing this anticipating prison which could result in his imminent demise. But none of that would matter to him if he could complete his assignment of sharing God’s kindness, the mission given to him by Jesus the Christ!
