Command(s)!

For Tuesday, May 16, 2023:

1 John 3:23-24 NLT: “This is his (God’s) commandment: We must believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as he commanded us. Those who obey God’s commandments remain in fellowship with him, and he with them. And we know he lives in us because the Spirit he gave us lives in us.”

We usually think of believing in Jesus and loving one another as two separate commands. But here John combines the two into one inseparable concept. Those who know Jesus instinctively love their neighbors. And those who show great love for one another are likely followers of Jesus!

Believing in Jesus is more than just knowing that he lived, walked on earth and was able to perform miracles. Having Jesus in your heart is believing that he returned to the Father to prepare an eternal place for you; that he died to pay the penalty for mankind’s sins; that believers are forever forgiven, redeemed and prepared for spending eternity in heaven, in God’s presence.

Knowing Jesus lives in your heart requires trust!
