Prisoners Set Free!

For Saturday, July 2, 2022:

Isaiah 61:1 NLT: “The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, for the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed.”

Jesus read this prophesy saying it was about him. This scripture was challenging to understand in Jesus’ day. After all, everyone knew him as Mary and Joseph’s son, not as a Savior. We have a much better understanding of it nowadays.

Jesus brought us the New Covenant, whereby we are offered the gift of eternal life simply by repenting and believing in and trusting Jesus. Mankind had been prisoners of sin and the law. Through Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross, the prisoners are indeed set free!

We are now saved by grace through faith!
