March 21, 2022 Monday Message
Acts 2:37b NLT, Words from the crowd after hearing Peter’s testimony: “Brothers, what should we do?”
Good question! Peter had just wrapped up his persuasive, heartfelt sermon by saying, “So let everyone in Israel know for certain that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, to be both Lord and Messiah!” And then the disciples were asked by those convinced, “What should we do?”
It’s the same message that had been preached for years: Repent and return! That had been the message of Moses, of Jonah, of David, and especially John-the-Baptist, who said to repent because the Kingdom of God was at hand. Hope was in a stable, in Bethlehem! “Repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.”
This happened on the Day of Pentecost, which we celebrate nowadays as the birthday of the church.
The new believers were then baptized and added to the church that day – about 3,000 in all!
