August 9, 2021 Monday Message
Matthew 6:33 NIV: “Seek first God’s kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
At church, we’ve been talking about focusing on substance, things of eternal significance – the big, important stuff. Focus on God, focus on heaven, and let go of the little circumstantial incidents that plague us all. In this verse, Jesus tells us to do just that. If you’re focused on living in God’s eternal kingdom, the little stuff of day-to-day life won’t matter nearly as much.
Jesus explains in this translation from the Message: “What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with ‘getting,’ so you can respond to God’s ‘giving.’ People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.”
Paul explains to the Philippians: “I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.” That heavenly prize is our hope!
