For Thursday, June 6, 2024:
1 Peter 1:24-25 NLT: “People are like grass; their beauty is like a flower in the field. The grass withers and the flower fades. But the word of the Lord remains forever.”
Nothing you now know about will last forever, except God the Creator and his kingdom. The house you lived in? Gone! That fancy car you drove? Gone! Your adoption into the Holy Family? That remains. Forever! That’s a “God” thing!
In his letter, Peter is quoting scripture from Isaiah 40. Humans come and go. They come because God said so, and they should leave in that same way. That’s why we consider murder such a heinous crime. In murder, one human is circumventing God’s timetable concerning another human, and God is never happy about it.
When humans leave their earthly life and move into the next reality, there are only two destinations. All have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory, but the forgiven have a reservation in the forever kingdom. All the others get to see the lake of fire from the inside. Therefore we need to have our reservation in place while we are still alive, while we are still able to make decisions. There will come a day when it is too late to get on board. The train will have already left the station!
So join up with the one thing that lasts forever – God, his words and his principles! Do it today while you still can!
