For Tuesday, December 20, 2022:
Luke 1:26-27 NLT: “In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a village in Galilee, to a virgin named Mary. She was engaged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of King David.”
Elizabeth was the mother of John-the-Baptist, who would be born before Mary’s child Jesus, so he could herald the coming Messiah. Mary, still a virgin, was pledged to be married to Joseph when Gabriel visited and explained the whole thing. Mary would become pregnant through the Holy Spirit. They were to name the child Jesus, which means “The Lord saves or Savior.” “The baby to be born will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God.”
This was all foretold in scripture – someone to announce Jesus’ arrival, the city of Nazareth, born of a virgin, descendant of King David. It’s all coming into focus!
Mary was the perfect example of obedience to God’s call. “I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.”
The world is about to be rescued!!
