For Tuesday, November 8, 2022:
John 14:2 NLT, Jesus speaking: “There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?”
Here Jesus wants to reassure his disciples that there is a life after this life. Back then, this was a topic up for debate. The Pharisees were hoping for a heaven, while the Sadducees were convinced that death was the end. The Son of God clears up this confusion! There not only IS a life after this life, but believers are headed that way! It’s where God himself lives, an immense city with a place prepared for each of us by the Son.
In most countries, cities sprawl or grow horizontally. But look at Japan. People live in high-rise apartments and work in high-rise office buildings. They’re able to accommodate a lot more people by growing vertically!
Q: Is there enough room in heaven? The Bible says heaven is approximately 1,500 miles (2,400 km) in each of 3 directions, kinda like a cube. So there IS a vertical component in heaven! One commentator pictures the vertical dimension alongside a mountain. I like that, but it’s speculation. The bottom line is that God, who can do anything, can make heaven as big as he wants to, or as big as is needed. God is never restricted by the human limitations we know!
I hope there’s an elevator!
