For Tuesday, June 14, 2022:
Mark 8:25-26 NLT: “Jesus placed his hands on the man’s eyes again, and his eyes were opened. His sight was completely restored, and he could see everything clearly. Jesus sent him away, saying, ‘Don’t go back into the village on your way home.’”
Yes, Jesus could heal. He could restore sight in the blind, allow the lame to walk and remove many other diseases and afflictions. The normal response would be to celebrate the healing, and perhaps throw a parade in Jesus’ honor! But Jesus told them to not tell anyone. What’s going on?
It has to do with his mission, his calling, his purpose in God’s vast eternal plan. What we need to understand is that Jesus was the Messiah, the Christ, the anointed one sent by God to redeem mankind. Healing was good, his teaching was outstanding, but Jesus’ primary purpose – the main thing – is to be the ultimate sacrifice for ALL the sins of the world, thereby rescuing those who call on his name. He filled the world with hope where there was none!
Jesus wanted to be best-known as our Redeemer!
