April 11, 2022 Monday Message:
Matthew 21:9 NIV: “The crowds that went ahead of Jesus and those that followed shouted, ‘Hosanna to the Son of David!’ ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’ ‘Hosanna in the highest heaven!’”
Palm Sunday kicks off Holy Week, when we celebrate Jesus’ final week before the crucifixion. It begins with the Triumphal Entry, Jesus riding a borrowed donkey through the city, with people shouting, “Hosanna,” which means save us, save us now!
I believe that many in the crowd had been following Jesus for quite some time, and had already determined who Jesus was, the Son of the Living God. They would not shout to be saved, to be redeemed, if they didn’t have a reasonable expectation that Jesus could make it so.
We should share that same confidence nowadays, knowing that Jesus is the only one who can redeem mankind from our sin problem and assure us of a place in the Eternal Kingdom with the Father. We too should shout out, “Hosanna! Save us, save us now!”
