Compassion!

Matthew 15:10 NLT, Jesus speaking: “It’s not what goes into your mouth that defiles you; you are defiled by the words that come out of your mouth.”

Jesus didn’t like hypocrites, those who said one thing but then did something totally different. Many Jews were very careful about dietary laws, what they ate. They purported to be Godly, but showed no love for their fellows. But Jesus is quick to point out that we are defined not by what goes into our bodies, but by our inner thoughts and our actions.

Jesus is changing the world! Back then, the modus operandi was to look out for #1. But Jesus says we should also love our brothers and sisters. We should care for widows and orphans. We should form communities of believers and look out for one another! God wants his tribe full of people with compassion and common sense.

Like the song says, “They will know we are Christians by our Love!”
