Matthew 15:30 NLT: “A vast crowd brought to Jesus people who were lame, blind, crippled, those who couldn’t speak, and many others. They laid them before Jesus, and he healed them all.”
Jesus would have been trending on social media if it had existed back then! Many followed him from place to place to hear his every word. People brought those who were blind, deaf and lame, and Jesus healed them all. He was becoming known as a healer, something very good, but not his primary mission. That’s why Jesus would sometimes heal someone, but ask them to not tell anyone.
Jesus’ primary mission was to redeem mankind, to release God’s creations - that God loves - from their sin problem. On the cross, Jesus would take the sin of the world to the place of the dead. In other words, Jesus takes our sin away leaving us pure, acceptable for residency in heaven. It’s called, “The Great Exchange!” We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus and belief in this principle.
The crowd following Jesus didn’t understand all of this – yet! They were simply taken with all the healing miracles. (Matt. 15:31) “The crowd was amazed! Those who hadn’t been able to speak were talking, the crippled were made well, the lame were walking, and the blind could see again! And they praised the God of Israel.” Which was a good thing!
