Acts 15:11 NLT, Paul speaking: “We believe that we are all saved the same way, by the undeserved grace of the Lord Jesus.”
Paul was defending the Gentile believers who were not circumcised like their Jewish brothers. He taught that we are saved by grace through our faith in Jesus, and nothing else is required. Salvation is always “Jesus” alone – it’s never “Jesus” plus something else, and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise!
Paul was standing up for a basic principle of Christianity that was brought to light 1.5k years later during the Reformation by Martin Luther: “The Five Solas.” Solus or solo means alone or unaccompanied. Today we’re looking at Solus Christus or Solo Christo ("Christ alone" or "through Christ alone.") After the work Jesus did on the cross, he is the only mediator needed between God and mankind. This fundamental bypasses the no-longer-necessary priestly class, and sidesteps a lot of other rituals and traditions!
We can go straight to Jesus for redemption! Nothing else is required!
