For Thursday, April 4, 2024:
Colossians 1:6 NLT, to the church in Colosse: “This same Good News that came to you is going out all over the world. It is bearing fruit everywhere by changing lives, just as it changed your lives from the day you first heard and understood the truth about God’s wonderful grace.”
Christianity was spreading like wildfire! And after Jesus, everything was different. The first thing we all notice is our calendars. The world knows that today is April 4, 2024, and by acknowledging that date everyone acknowledges that the birth of Jesus was a significant event, a dividing point in time. We count time before Jesus, and we add years after his birth, but Christ’s birth is when we started recounting. (BTW, on the Hebrew calendar, it’s 25 Adar II, 5784.)
A look at a Christian’s faith will always reveal a true love for God’s people. Jesus said we should love our neighbors. More challenging is to love our enemies. Love permeates Christian communities, fueled by their faith in Jesus.
Notice the familiar triad of faith, hope, and love. Before Jesus, people weren’t assured of salvation. In fact it was hotly debated if there even was life after this life. Jesus proved that sins can be forgiven, and showed us that death is not the end! He himself walked away from the grave, and we can too!
Jesus showed us the way!
