For Friday, April 5, 2024:
Colossians 1:10 NLT, to the church in Colosse: “The way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better.”
Why do Christians live according to God’s directions? Because God’s way is a good way, the best way, and we want to be a part of it! If we love our neighbors, we’ll be welcomed by the Christian community. Others will know we are Christians by our love. Living by God’s rules will please him, and we want the Lord to be pleased with us!
But understand that following commandments won’t get you into heaven! By doing good we don’t gather more “heaven points!” Let’s call most other religions “do” religions. You have to “do” something to please their God. But Christianity is a “done” religion. Your redemption was accomplished by the guy on the center cross. He took our sins to the place of the dead, and handed out tickets for the hereafter! The work of seeing heaven from the inside has already been “done” for us. That’s called grace, a free gift. We need unwavering faith to accept God’s free gift of eternal life.
Our faith in Jesus gives us assurance of salvation!
