For January 2, 2024:
Mark 3:1 NLT: “Jesus went into the synagogue again and noticed a man with a deformed hand.”
When encountering a situation like this, we need to know what to do. Moses brought us commandments from God, and #4 says, “Remember (or observe) the Sabbath and keep it holy.” Tradition tells us that if we’re doing some other kind of work, God doesn’t have 100% of our attention. But where do you draw the line about working of the Sabbath? Jesus teaches us!
He asked his critics, “Does the law permit good deeds on the Sabbath, or is it a day for doing evil? Is this a day to save life or to destroy it?” Good questions!
Remember that Jesus also said, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” Therefore, being kind and helpful to our brothers and sisters IS honoring what Jesus said to do. It IS a Godly thing to do good works on the Sabbath, to show love to your neighbor, to do the next right thing! What could be wrong with that? In this case the man was healed, believers got to witness the miracle, and everyone worshiped and gave thanks to the Lord! It was a win/win day!
After all, it IS His day!
