Provision!

For Saturday, June 13, 2026:

Luke 5:3 NLT: “Stepping into one of the boats, Jesus asked Simon (Peter), its owner, to push it out into the water. So he sat in the boat and taught the crowds from there.”

Have you ever been on a shore and clearly heard a conversation taking place on a nearby boat? Voices carry quite a distance over water. Jesus had been preaching the Word of God from shore, but the crowd had grown too large for everyone to hear. His solution was to hop in a boat and use it as his podium. His voice would then carry well over the water! Problem solved!

Jehovah-Jireh, God the provider, already had two boats nearby. Finding no fish that day, the crew was back in port cleaning their nets. The lesson here is that God will often provide what you need even before you know that you need it! Jesus would later repay their favor by taking them fishing for more fish than both boats could hold, but that’s another lesson!

The Bible says that people were “pressing in” on Jesus to hear the Word of God. Soon he might have been under the waves in the Sea of Galilee! The boat was a much better solution! God is good!

Worry Not!

For Thursday, June 12, 2025:

Luke 12:31 NLT, Jesus speaking: “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and he will give you everything you need.”

My father taught me to only worry about things that I could control. Worrying about things over which you have no control is futile, wasted anxiety!

Jesus is saying to seek God and his Kingdom, and not waste time worrying about anything! God already knows your needs, and God will provide. God knows you need food to eat and clothes to wear. Worrying, fretting or wringing your hands will only make you miserable. Worrying won’t magically make food or clothing appear, and worrying won’t add a single day to your life. Jesus advises us to trust in the Lord who loves us!

Birds don’t plant or harvest food, but they seem to find plenty to eat. Surely mankind is more valuable than birds! Lilies are beautiful and fragrant one day, but are thrown into a fire the next. God has a longer-range plan for mankind. He will certainly care for you!

Unbelievers worry about what to eat and what to wear. Encourage them to better know Jesus and abandon worry. If we seek the Kingdom of God above all else, he will give us everything we need.

Now go sing a chorus of “Don’t Worry, Be Happy!”

Treasure in Heaven!

For Thursday, October 22, 2020 

1 Corinthians 1:7 NLT: “Now (that you’re a Christ follower,) you have every spiritual gift you need as you eagerly wait for the return of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

The Bible says that God will always equip you for the journey on which He’s sending you. If you’re a believer, part of a church family, you’re included in God’s family, where the Good Shepherd always takes excellent care of his flock, and that gives us hope! 

Jehovah Jireh, God the provider, will meet both your earthly needs and your spiritual needs. Believers will have everything they need, not everything they want!

In the US, we have Social Security, kind of a savings account for when we get older. Some of us have a 401k retirement plan. Don’t forget to also fund your heavenly 401k. Jesus taught to store up treasure in heaven. You’ll be retired on earth for 20-40 years, but you’ll be in heaven for eternity!
