Provision!

For Saturday, June 13, 2026:

Luke 5:3 NLT: “Stepping into one of the boats, Jesus asked Simon (Peter), its owner, to push it out into the water. So he sat in the boat and taught the crowds from there.”

Have you ever been on a shore and clearly heard a conversation taking place on a nearby boat? Voices carry quite a distance over water. Jesus had been preaching the Word of God from shore, but the crowd had grown too large for everyone to hear. His solution was to hop in a boat and use it as his podium. His voice would then carry well over the water! Problem solved!

Jehovah-Jireh, God the provider, already had two boats nearby. Finding no fish that day, the crew was back in port cleaning their nets. The lesson here is that God will often provide what you need even before you know that you need it! Jesus would later repay their favor by taking them fishing for more fish than both boats could hold, but that’s another lesson!

The Bible says that people were “pressing in” on Jesus to hear the Word of God. Soon he might have been under the waves in the Sea of Galilee! The boat was a much better solution! God is good!

Son of God!

For Sunday, June 7, 2026:

Luke 4:40 NLT: “Many were possessed by demons; and the demons came out at Jesus’ command, shouting, “You are the Son of God!” But because they knew he was the Messiah, he rebuked them and refused to let them speak.”

Jesus had healed Simon’s mother-in-law. Word got out, and soon people from miles around were bringing their sick and injured to Jesus. Some of the people were plagued by demons, oftentimes the root cause of their illness. Jesus would send the demons away as part of his cure.

The demons identified Jesus. “You are the Son of God!” But Jesus knew that if he claimed to be the Son of God, he’d be accused of blasphemy, so he didn’t let the demons speak.

Nowadays, we don’t have to be so cautious with our words. Believers should tell the world that Jesus is truly the Son of the Most High. We should shout out the Good News!

Jesus the Socialite!

For Tuesday, May 26, 2026:

Luke 4:38-39a NLT: “Jesus went to Simon’s home, where he found Simon’s mother-in-law very sick with a high fever. ‘Please heal her,’ everyone begged. Standing at her bedside, he rebuked the fever, and it left her.”

Jesus is particularly good at setting things right, putting things back to their intended way, their intended purpose. Satan and his demons, on the other hand, are known for disruption, for sending situations and people in the wrong direction, well off their intended course. Just prior to this, Jesus had cast a demon out of a wild man, creating a ruckus in the Synagogue. The disciples were starting to believe that Jesus could do anything! Now Simon’s mother-in-law was sidelined with a severe fever, and Jesus was asked to intervene. A few words from the Son of God sent the fever on its way. Demons fear Jesus and his name, so the fever is quickly extinguished. Score “one” for Jesus!

Close friendship and a sense of community are benefits for Christians who live the way Jesus intends for us to live. Christians are meant to love one another and share generously. It’s not unusual for a good friend to do a favor for his/her brother or sister. So when Jesus was asked to help Simon’s mother-in-law, it was a given that he’d pitch in.

When Jesus walked on the Earth, he was a social creature, always visiting someone’s house, taking a meal with others, and hanging out with ‘the guys!’ Invite him into your house today. You might be surprised at all the good that could happen!

God's Timing!

Daily message of hope...
For Thursday, February 26, 2026:

John 13:36 NLT: “Simon Peter asked, ‘Lord, where are you going?’ And Jesus replied, ‘You can’t go with me now, but you will follow me later.’”

Omniscient Jesus knows what’s coming, and he tells the Apostles that he’ll be leaving soon. He knows a cross is in his future, and his human body will die. He also knows that he’ll be taking the sins of the world to the place of the dead. Believers will be forgiven, and will be able to join him in God’s heavenly kingdom, but later. He’ll rise from the grave in three days, wrap up his ministry on earth and then return to the Father.

Simon Peter doesn’t know any of this, and if you told him, he wouldn’t get it. I call him Mr. Impulsive, but he has a big heart. He wants to go with Jesus right now without an understanding of the consequences. It seems like a good thing to do, but he didn’t think it through to the conclusion. In ministry, everything happens within God’s timetable. Simon and all the other Apostles will join Jesus in the Kingdom when their work on earth is complete, when it’s time for God to call them home.

It’s no different nowadays. Ministry will proceed at God’s pace. When our earthly work is complete, God will call all believers home, in God’s timing. Count on it – Jesus said!

Immediately!

For Saturday, February 21, 2026:

Matthew 4:21-22 NLT: “A little farther up the shore, Jesus saw two other brothers, James and John, sitting in a boat with their father, Zebedee, repairing their nets. And he called them to come, too. They immediately followed him, leaving the boat and their father behind.”

Jesus was continuing his ministry around the Sea of Galilee. Simon, also known as Peter, and his brother Andrew were now walking with Jesus, his first two disciples. I’m sure all the fishermen on this body of water knew each other, so as Jesus said the names James and John, Simon called out, “We have found the Messiah!”

Most of the Hebrew nation had been waiting for the moment God would send a rescuer to his people, and if this was it, James and John didn’t want to be left out. An emissary from God could certainly counter the grief they experienced dealing with the Roman government and army. They immediately took a leave of absence from the family business and joined up with Simon, Andrew and Jesus on their trek around the lake.

The key word here is “immediately.” No hesitation, no hemming and hawing, just go with Jesus when he calls you. Pretend you’re the kicker on a football team, it’s fourth down, and the coach says, “Now! Get in the game. We need you to kick that field goal!” You don’t dawdle. You don’t waste any time. You go running onto the field, eager to serve!

Each of us has been given unique spiritual gifts, and the time will come when your gifts are exactly what the Lord needs. He’ll tap you on the shoulder and say, “Now! Get in the game. We need you!” The quicker you respond, the better!

We all need to be walking with the Lord, just like Simon, Andrew, James and John. If you’re closer to Jesus, it’s easier for him to tap you on the shoulder!

Fishing for Souls!

February 16, 2026, Monday Message:

Matthew 4:19 NLT: Jesus called out to Simon and his brother Andrew, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!”

I told you that Jesus did a lot of his ministry around the Sea of Galilee. It starts now as he begins to assemble his team. Simon, also known as Peter, and his brother Andrew were fishermen by trade. And like most people of Hebrew descent, they were keeping a watchful eye out for the Messiah. Imagine being told all your life to expect a Messiah, and suddenly along comes Jesus, THE Messiah!

Fishermen were judged by the quality and quantity of their catch. You can’t make a living by catching only a few fish, and some breeds of fish are more desirable than others. Jesus promises an even loftier goal. “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” Now, instead of fishing, they were in the “Repent and Return” business. It’s the same business in which we find ourselves nowadays. Have you caught any big ones lately?

When the Messiah calls you to his ministry team, the right thing to do is to drop everything and immediately become a disciple. Secure your boat, your nets, and your other fishing paraphernalia and get in step with God’s Son. This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Simon and Andrew. And it can be a lifetime opportunity for you and me!

Blessings on this Presidents’ Day!

Cock-a-doodle-doo!!!

For Thursday, September 18, 2025:

John 13:36 NLT: “Simon Peter asked, “Lord, where are you going?”

And Jesus replied, “You can’t go with me now, but you will follow me later.”

Jesus gave Peter an answer, but the answer didn’t fit the question. In this exchange, Jesus never said where he was going. Jesus wisely avoided topics that most people wouldn’t understand. Remember that at that time, there was debate over life-after-this-life. Pharisees thought it was possible, but didn’t know much about it. Sadducees didn’t believe in a hereafter, so it was a dead topic with them. Jesus knew exactly what was to happen, but the true scenario would seem impossible to most people. Dying, going to the place of the dead, back to life in 3 days – doesn’t seem logical. Doesn’t seem possible!

Jesus challenges Peter with a prophecy: “Before the rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will deny three times that you even know me.”

Simon Peter – I call him Mr. Impulsive – shouts out, “Not me, Lord! I would never forsake you. I would be willing to die for you!” Dying in support of Jesus would be good, but dying unnecessarily would be bad.

In the courtyard: “Didn’t I see you with Jesus earlier today?”

Peter: “Nah, couldn’t have been me. You got the wrong guy!”

In the courtyard: “I think I recognize you. Aren’t you one of the 12?”

Peter: “You’re thinking of someone else. I’m from out of town!”

In the courtyard: “You were talking to Jesus earlier, over by the fire.”

Peter: “You keep talking about Jesus. I’ve never even met the guy!”

Rooster: Cock-a-doodle-doo!!!

Some folks call Peter a coward or say that he abandoned Jesus. Yes, he saved his own skin, but I prefer to line that up with God’s vast eternal plan. You see, God had already earmarked Peter to lead the disciples following the resurrection. He was the point-person for the first Christian church, The Way. Peter needed to stay alive to do the work God had given him to do! God gave Peter purpose.

If you’re not dead, you’re not done! Peter lived to fulfill God’s purpose for his existence. We all live to fulfill God’s purpose for us. We can love our neighbors, serve others, love our Lord and encourage others to love him too. That’s our mission; that’s our assignment.

Without purpose, it may be our time to leave the planet. (Just my opinion.)

Fishers of Men!

For Friday, May 10, 2024:

Mark 1:17-18: “‘Come, follow me,’ Jesus said, ‘and I will make you fishers of men.’ At once they left their nets and followed him.”

Many of Jesus’ disciples earned their living by fishing, but ALL of them understood fishing. Simon and Andrew were using nets to multiply their fishing efforts. They could bring in a large number of fish by gathering the net once. That’s the principle.

In a way, Jesus said, “That’s nothing! Follow me and we’ll fish for human souls!” Jesus is preparing to speak the truth of salvation, the truth of being rescued from our sin problem. This analogy touched their hearts. They knew fishing.

Are we going to put out big nets and capture people? No! Our net is truth. Our net is heavenly truth straight from the mouth of Jesus. Our net is the promise of forgiveness. Our net is living in God’s presence in the life after this life.

This is Good News! It shouldn’t be too hard. Our net looks pretty good. People should be jumping into our boat! Encourage them!

The Original Rock!

For Thursday, April 13, 2023:

Matthew 16:18 NLT, Jesus speaking to Simon: “Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.”

Peter is a unique character, insatiably curious and wildly impulsive. Remember the night Jesus was arrested and Peter denied knowing Jesus – three times! He could instantly lie to save his own skin! As Jesus was being taken into custody, Peter cut an ear off one of the soldiers, impulsively defending his mentor. Jesus, on his way to the cross, immediately healed that soldier.

Peter’s character traits caused him to constantly seek knowledge, and his impulsive nature spurred him to rapidly put that knowledge to work. He had the spiritual gift of leadership, and he probably would have risen to lead the twelve even if Jesus hadn’t assigned him that position. His get-it-done attitude was perfect for establishing Jesus’ new churches.

Each of us needs to ask ourselves, what are we called to do for Jesus and his church? What are our spiritual gifts? Have we been given the spiritual gift of leadership?

Jesus was fully man and fully God, and when God opens a new church, the powers of hell cannot prevail against it! Peter was guaranteed success!

Jesus: "Do you love me?"

April 20, 2020 Monday Message:

“Simon son of John, do you love me?” John 21:17 NLT

As the disciples ate breakfast on the beach, Jesus asked this question of Simon - three times - and by now, Simon considered it ‘asked-and-answered.’ Upset, hurt and somewhat frustrated, he replied, “Lord, you know everything! You KNOW that I love you!”

And then Jesus commands, “Then feed my sheep.”

This ‘sheep’ analogy is used throughout the Bible. Taking care of all the believers is frequently referred to as ‘tending the flock.’ 2,000 years ago, people were closer to rural life than nowadays, so most people knew what was required to take care of sheep. Back then, the analogy made a lot of sense. Most people knew the job description of a good shepherd, with Jesus being the ultimate example of a Good Shepherd.

Now pretend with me that you are present at that breakfast meeting, but this time, instead of asking Simon, Jesus asks that same question of you. Go ahead; insert your own name; say it out loud: “(name), do you love me?”

And you answer, “Yes, Lord, of course I do!”

And then, just like Simon Peter, Jesus commands you to, “Feed my sheep!” Consider this a personal invitation to join the Great Commission. Jesus didn’t call only Simon to minister – He calls ALL of us to spread the Good News, to make disciples of all nations, and then baptize them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus wants to include you on the team. He wants us off the bench and in the game!

God’s blessings on you and your loved ones this Easter season!

Re-Commissioned

April 13, 2015 Monday Message:

“Simon, do you love me?” “Yes, Lord, you know I do.” “Then feed my sheep.” from John 22:15-17 CEV

God calls each of us into ministry in various ways. Most are not ministry professionals. Some are helpers, encouragers, counselors or mentors. Some have the gift of hospitality. When the church needs to celebrate a victory or launch a new event, they know exactly what needs to take place.

But sometimes we can all get tired, discouraged or afraid, and our ministry efforts lose the priority they once had. We need a boost, a shot-in-the-arm, a re-launching of our commission. We need to be re-called into ministry.

In spite of the fact that Jesus had told the disciples that he needed to suffer and die, I get the feeling that no one saw Good Friday coming. That series of events left their movement fractured, without a leader. Simon had been trained for the role, but that same Simon denied Jesus three times to save his own skin. The disciples were depressed and confused; ministry was at a standstill.

Jesus needed to re-launch the ministry and re-commission Simon. Jesus needed to let everyone know that Simon was still the point-person for the new movement, and that the Christians were still in business.

Sometimes a ministry needs to be re-launched. Sometimes a Christian worker needs to be re-commissioned. It worked for Jesus! “Feed my Sheep - follow Me!”

Expect the Unexpected

April 16, 2012 Monday Message:

“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened...” Ephesians 1:18a Today, I pray that God would open our minds and the eyes of our hearts to expect the unexpected.

Outside Jesus’ tomb, Mary Magdalene was looking for Jesus but didn’t expect to find him in the garden. But when he spoke her name, “Mary,” and she answered in Aramaic, “Rabboni,” the impossible became real. She had been looking in the wrong place, a place for the dead. But her master was, unexpectedly, among the living!

On the road to Emmaus, Cleopas and his companion speak of the devastating things that had occurred in Jerusalem. These disciples lament that their Prophet had been crucified, so of course they would expect him to be among the dead. Jesus led a little small-group Bible study while they were walking, and opened their eyes to the fact that He, Jesus, was among the living.

Even the apostles didn’t “get it” at first. After fishing all night and catching nothing, the man on the shore told them to lower the nets on the RIGHT side of the boat. When the apostles did this, they couldn’t even lift the net because of the large number of fish. This could only mean one thing: Jesus! Knowing that Jesus had been crucified, the apostles weren’t looking for Jesus among the living. Now their eyes were opened, and Mr. Impulsive, Simon-Peter, jumped into the water and immediately swam to the Master. They had a wonderful reunion that morning and ate a meal together. I’ll have the fish!

So today, remember to keep an open mind to the supernatural, those miracles from heaven. Expect the unexpected, because Jesus is among the living.

Blessings to all during this time of Easter Celebration!

Give What You Have

June 13, 2011 Monday Message:

“I don’t have any silver or gold for you. But I’ll give you what I have.” Acts 3:6a

The Holy Spirit filled Simon-Peter and the other believers on the day of Pentecost. Next, our impulsive Apostle preached the story of how Jesus fulfilled all prophecy, and as he spoke, the message was miraculously understood in all languages.

Challenged to make a decision, the listeners asked, “Brothers, what should we do?” They were told to repent and return to the Lord, and 3000 came forward and were baptized that day.

After such a day, what could be next? How about healing a man who had been lame from birth? As Peter and John entered the Temple, they passed a beggar who asked them for money. Peter answered, “I don’t have any silver or gold for you, but I’ll give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk!”

Peter took the man’s hand, helped him to his feet, and instantly he was restored. Not just a little bit healed, but all the way healed! The man took off, leaping through the Temple and praising God to everyone!

Nowadays, people in need often turn to churches for help. Like the lame man, these people ask for money or food, and yes, we try to supply those things. Like Peter, we may not always have silver or gold. But we are called to pour out what we DO have: love modeled after Jesus, peace that passes all understanding and true friendship. People who ask for help need Jesus as much as they need food. And they’re longing for community, a sense of belonging. Like the Apostle, we are called to reach out our hand and help them to their feet.

If you’ve been filled with the Living Water, you can pour some of it for others! Therefore go…
