Promises of Hope!

For Wednesday, December 9, 2020

Psalms 130:5 NLT: “I am counting on the Lord; yes, I am counting on him. I have put my hope in his word.

Having made his plea to the Lord, the psalmist then waits patiently for God and the rescue He will bring. But the waiting is not a time of inactivity. The psalmist uses this time to actively set his hope on the promises of God as found in the Word of God, the Bible.

God is true to his word. If God promises us something, we can count on it being so. Our hope is anchored in God's promises in his Word.

Interestingly, the psalmist doesn't keep his hope in the Lord to himself. He wrote it into a prayer that the entire congregation could sing to the Lord! The whole world should know about the hope we have through faith in our God!

Blessings and safety to all today!

Psalms 137 - In a Foreign Land

April 16, 2018 Monday Message:

“We just cannot sing the Lord’s song in a foreign land.” Psalms 137:4

In Psalm 137, known as, “By the Rivers of Babylon,” God’s chosen people were captured by the Babylonians c.600 BC. They miss their home in Jerusalem, and pray for the destruction of Babylon. In fact, in 516 BC, Persia (now Iran) destroyed Babylon.

But Jesus teaches us to handle conflict differently. We are to turn the other cheek and pray for our enemies.

As we share the Good News with ALL nations, we understand the need to coexist with everyone, including our enemies.

“Vengeance is mine – I will repay,” says the Lord. So don’t you worry about getting even; leave that to God. You and I just need to worry about telling everyone the Good News about Jesus!

Turns out we CAN sing our song in a foreign land! Just don’t worship there!
