Get Going!

For Sunday, June 27, 2021

Luke 5:11 GNT: “They pulled the boats up on the beach, left everything, and followed Jesus.”

As this day begins, Simon Peter was concerned only with catching fish. By day’s end, Jesus tells him that he will be fishing for people! Jesus preached from Simon’s boat to the on-shore crowd, and Simon was personally convinced by what he heard. The fact that Jesus summoned more fish than the boats could handle was icing on the cake, so to speak. It was one more bit of miracle evidence to cement their relationship.

That day Simon learned that life could be more than just netting a few fish. He was given a unique insight into God’s Eternal Kingdom - he was offered eternal hope! And when God opens the door to let you in, you’d better get going! The fishermen left everything and followed Jesus - immediately!

God-School!

For Saturday, October 3, 2020

Psalm 119:32 GNT: “I will eagerly obey your commands, O Lord, because you will give me more understanding.”

Acquiring knowledge is incremental. We oftentimes top off our previous foundation by adding new wisdom. Think of your education as being cumulative.

Here’s an example: When students enter elementary school, many are just learning their numbers. With that skill, they first learn addition, and then subtraction. Then using those acquired skills, they can move on to multiplication and long division.

The same thing applies to learning about God. We start with a solid foundation. But as we attend church, study our Bibles and hang out with Christian friends, our knowledge increases – it accumulates, and day by day we learn more and more about God and his Son Jesus. And that’s what God wants – a relationship with us!

Enjoying a close relationship with the Lord leads to hope!

Blessings to all!

Change the World - Together!

Nov. 25, 2013 Monday Message:

“Go and make disciples of all nations…” (from Matt. 28:19)

Last week we talked about denominational distinctiveness. While each of us may be justifiably proud of our own church, I believe Jesus’ commission would be better served if we put more of our energy and resources into working together with other Christians, concentrating on the many things we have in common, rather than focusing on our differences.

So what do we have in common with other believers?

Christians are mono-theistic; that is, we believe there is one God. This God has expressed himself to us as Father-in-heaven, Jesus-on-earth and Holy Spirit advocate, who stands alongside us nowadays.

We believe that the Bible is God-breathed, His inspired Word.

We acknowledge that the world is a sinful place, and we’re part of it. We believe that Jesus died as the sacrifice for our sins, was buried and then bodily resurrected. Our salvation comes from our relationship with the one born of a virgin, Jesus, the one who was without sin. We are saved by grace through faith, and the price Jesus paid to redeem us is once-and-for-all sufficient. Our eternal destiny, heaven, can’t be earned or purchased. Jesus has done the work, the price is paid in full, and we get to spend eternity in the presence of God because we’re with Jesus, the one who ascended into heaven. He will come again.

While not an exhaustive list, these are some things on which all believers can agree. Perhaps, as we carry the Good News to all nations, we should do as Paul suggested: “Be of one mind, united in thought and purpose.” 1 Cor. 1:10b NLT

Now go change the world - together!
