The Best is Yet to Come!

For Sunday, February 15, 2026:

Hebrews 13:14 NLT: “This world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to come.

If only we could more clearly see the future! The Bible is truth. It tells us not only what happened, but also what lies ahead. History is interesting and important, but we can do nothing to alter what has already transpired. So it might be more beneficial to spend more time on Jesus’ words about what is to come. That’s something that we can change and make better!

Interesting sidebar: I’ve found that most Christians could retell a reasonably accurate version of the Christmas story with only a couple of missteps. They’ve sat through a number of Christmas pageants! The same group isn’t so clear about creation. Some know the Bible version, but don’t necessarily believe all of it. But when I teach about life after this life, I get a lot of blank stares. Our churches seem to teach a lot about what has happened, and very little about what is to come. Friends, I believe that we need to be prepared for the future!

Here’s the deal: If you’re alive today but headed in the wrong direction, there’s still time to set things right. By recasting our behavior, we can positively improve our place in eternity. We can join the group that calls Jesus the Lord and Savior of their lives. We can pray for Jesus to forgive our sins, wipe our slates clean and prepare a place for us in the hereafter. Eternity is a very long time! We want to be in the right place!

Messiah!

For Thursday, August 12, 2021

Luke 7:21 NRSV:Jesus had just then cured many people of diseases, plagues, and evil spirits, and had given sight to many who were blind.

John the Baptist wanted to confirm that Jesus was indeed the promised Messiah, so he sent a couple of his followers to check it out.

Jesus told them to use their eyes; tell John what you see. Use your ears; listen to the testimony of those who were healed. No one else could have performed these miracles. Jesus had to have been heaven-sent!

The Holy Bible is our religious book, but I should point out that it’s also an extremely accurate book of history. If you knew nothing of religion but read this only as a record of what actually happened, you’d find yourself becoming a fan of Jesus of Nazareth. And when Jesus says, “Follow me,” you’d be checking it out.

Considering everything Jesus did, there really is no other choice. Jesus – restorer of hope!

The Bible

Feb. 11, 2019 Monday Message

“History & Biographies”

We’re in Minnesota, where we’ve been inundated with below-zero cold weather and a blanket of snow, which has thrown me a bit behind schedule. Time to catch up…

At my church, Jesus in the City Fellowship, we’ve been revisiting the basics of Christianity, and last week we started looking at the Bible.

While the Bible is our Holy religious book, it’s important to realize that a lot of it is history, specifically the history of God’s covenant people. We can verify Bible history by comparing it with secular history. We can double-check who was king, and which country won the war, and secular history writers agree 100% with the facts written in the Bible. So if the Bible has been proven truthful with historical facts, it stands to reason the Bible would be truthful about religious facts as well.

The Bible is also biographies, detailing the lives of Moses, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, David, Paul, and most importantly, Jesus of Nazareth. We have four biographies of Jesus, two written by Apostles, one written by a close friend of an Apostle, and one investigative report from Paul’s beloved physician Luke.

The Bible has a lot of good stories about the people of God, and like the song says, “I love to tell the story.” We should ALL love to tell the story of Jesus and his love!
