Psalm 34:18 GNT: “The Lord is near to those who are discouraged; he saves those who have lost all hope.”
The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart. When his people cry out, the Lord listens.
David’s message is that when it seems like there is no hope, there actually is! God is in the business of rescuing those who feel that all is lost! Those with broken hearts and contrite spirits are the objects of God’s favor and salvation. David testifies that a lot had gone wrong in his life, but God rescued him every time, and that same God can rescue you too!
Spurgeon writes, “Broken hearts think God is far away, when he is really most near to them.” Their eyes fail to see their best friend. Indeed, he is with them and in them.
“If your heart is broken, you’ll find God right there; if you’re kicked in the gut, he’ll help you catch your breath.” (MSG)
Blessings and safety to everyone this St. Patrick’s Day!
