For
Friday, July 10, 2020.
Today’s
scripture was suggested by Chaplain Shar Burgess.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 NLT: “For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under
heaven.”
We
used to tell a joke… Q: How many Lutherans does it take to change a light bulb?
A:
Change? Whaddaya mean, “Change???”
In
general, people don’t like change, but the fact is that everything WILL change!
In our lifetimes fashions have changed, music has changed, where we live has
changed, countries and governments have changed and surprisingly our style of
worship has changed. There is a time for everything, but God’s timing is always
best. By the way, God himself doesn’t change!
God
says, “My thoughts are nothing like your
thoughts, and my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.” Therefore we
oftentimes won’t understand God’s purpose in what is happening. Rest assured
that He IS still in charge and there IS a master-plan. And it will all play out
in God’s time, not our time, so we may not ‘get it’ right away.
So why are we living
through this pandemic? Again, only God knows the big picture. But the pandemic has
increased the number of those far from God seeking more information about God.
Churches have had to abandon the “one-service-Sunday-morning” model, and now
reach people in far-away cities in many different ways; internet ministries are
flourishing. And then this will all end, in God’s time, and we’ll be on to the
next thing.
For
extra credit, read Ecclesiastes 3:1-8. If you survived the 60’s, listen to the
Byrds sing, “Turn! Turn! Turn!”
God’s
blessings on you all today and always!
