John 1:1 NLT: “We
proclaim to you the one who existed from the beginning, whom we have
heard and seen. We saw him (Jesus) with our own eyes and touched him with our
own hands. He is the Word of life.”
The Apostle John
wrote this letter long after Jesus had died and returned to the Father, but
John boldly makes no secret of the fact that he’s a “Jesus fan!” Having walked
alongside Jesus and being one of his best friends, John can share a unique
perspective concerning Jesus. There’s no better testimony than from an
eyewitness, someone who was right there and saw everything with his own eyes.
John is convinced
that Jesus is the author of life, and he wants to tell everyone. In his Gospel,
he writes, “Jesus existed in the beginning with God. God created everything
through him, and nothing was created except
through him. Jesus gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to
everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never
extinguish it.”
“The light” refers
to Jesus’ offer of salvation; “darkness” being the evil ways of the world. Think
about it - Wherever light shines becomes light. That’s why we teach the Gospel,
to bring in more light. In the long run, darkness never wins.
O to have lived 2,000
years ago, to see all the miracles, the healings, to hear the teaching straight
from Jesus’ mouth! But John proclaims this Good News to us so that we too can
believe. He’s supporting the words of Jesus, “Blessed are those who believe without seeing me.” And that’s
all of us!
Blessings and protection to all today!
