God-approved!

For Sunday, June 9, 2024:

1 Peter 2:4 NLT: “You are coming to Christ, who is the living cornerstone of God’s temple. He was rejected by people, but he was chosen by God for great honor.

God has us on an incredible journey throughout our life on earth. Those who lived with Jesus knew God’s cornerstone firsthand. Thankfully they documented their experiences and wrote a lot of it down. Since it’s all about Jesus, we call it our Bible, our Holy book, our handbook for life!

Jesus was most certainly rejected by the leadership of his day. The light of the world came to us through the Hebrew people, but most of them didn’t understand who Jesus was or why he came to earth. The Pharisees conspired the crucifixion of Jesus, and the Romans carried out the sentence. It seems as though no one was on Jesus’ side, except God Almighty! In a way, that’s like God approving himself since Jesus-the-Son was in fact God-on-earth!

We have the privilege of worshiping the one who conquered sin and death on the same day. He is now the cornerstone of our lives, the center of our existence! That’s why we worship Jesus today!

See you at church!

God-approved!

For Tuesday, July 12, 2022:

John 6:27 NLT, Jesus speaking: “Don’t be so concerned about perishable things like food. Spend your energy seeking the eternal life that the Son of Man can give you. For God the Father has given me the seal of his approval.”

Things we encounter in this life fall into two categories. Let’s call them ‘Circumstance’ and ‘Substance.’

Interestingly, ‘Circumstance’ has the same root word as circus! It’s the colossal mess of stuff going on around you, things that really won’t matter on judgement day. Creature comforts and social position seem important now, but remember that at the end, the last will be first! That’s what Jesus said!

Things of ‘Substance,’ on the other hand, are things with eternal significance, things that matter to God. Jesus counsels his listeners to concentrate on things of substance, seeking eternal life. It’s a lofty goal, yet totally achievable if we put our hope in Jesus.

Like Jesus said, “God the Father has given me his seal of approval.”
