Together!

Acts 2:1 NIV: “When the day of Pentecost came, the believers were all together in one place.”

God planned a big Pentecost event, something that would require a large number of hands and feet to bring it to fruition. Fortunately, the believers were all together in one place, kind of like being at church. God called them to action, first equipping them with the Holy Spirit.

Peter exposited the scriptures - understood in many languages - explaining that Jesus was the Messiah, a fulfillment of ancient prophecy, and remarkably the crowd listened and was convinced! 3,000 were baptized and added to their number that day, the result of the believers being together, willing to serve!

Believers and the Kingdom both benefit from being together in one place. The Kingdom grows, and the believers find hope!

Together!

For Wednesday, February 2, 2022

Acts 1:14 NIV: “The believers all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.”

At the time, it appeared that things weren’t going well for the Christians. Their main man, Jesus, had recently been crucified. He rose from the dead to walk among them, but then ascended into heaven leaving his friends behind. The Romans were out to get them. The Pharisees were out to get them. It wasn’t easy being a Christian in the 1^st century.

Their 2 choices would have been to abandon the entire project, or – what they actually did – pray together, add additional converts, and grow the church into a force that could not be ignored! It took a few centuries, but eventually even Roman Emperors were firm believers!

Over the years, our nation has drifted farther from God. We’d be better off reversing that trend, and that begins with building up the local church. Invite someone new. Let them hear the Good News about Jesus!

Together the believers had hope!

Armor of God!

Ephesians 6:11 NIV: “Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.”

Don’t ever try to take on the devil without first contacting God. The Father stands ready to help, Jesus is on your side and the Holy Spirit is your counselor and advocate. Get out of the driver’s seat and let your Higher Power do what he’s best at.

The best defense against the evil of this world is to immerse yourself in the Lord and in his Word, the Bible. Light and darkness cannot exist in the same place – light always wins! If you’re curled up in God’s arms, Satan can’t even get close to you!

So permanently put on God’s armor, the protection of the Lord. Don’t leave home without it!
